A Few Words from our Founder

 First Edition

             I remember the moment so vividly.  I was sitting at my old, beat up desk in my tiny 6 X 8 office that felt like a cage on so many days and I was writing out a check for two hundred dollars to “Charity Riders,” another local charity organization.  As I was writing I was wishing I could do more.  From that single thought came others, one building on top of another.  A clock was building in my mind.  Within six months of that day “Matty’s Cause” was officially incorporated and registered as a New Jersey nonprofit corporation, allowing us to officially begin fundraising.  That was just in February of 2006.   

            Forming “Matty’s Cause” was a longer process, and a bit more expensive, than I had imagined.  This is the first time I have ever organized a nonprofit corporation.  And I knew this was something that I couldn’t do alone.  “Matty’s Cause, a New Jersey Nonprofit Corporation” is a member of the “New Jersey Center For Nonprofits.”  This group has been a tremendous assistance and has guided us through the long process of becoming a fully registered and 501 (c) 3 tax-exempt organization in the state of New Jersey. 

            The input that has come from the Board of Trustees of “Matty’s Cause” has been instrumental in the forming of this organization.  Let me take this opportunity to say, “THANK YOU!” to our excellent Board, Sonja Nunan (Vice-President), Kristy Graversen (Treasurer), and Sean Nunan (Secretary).  All fine people doing great work for this worthy cause.  “Matty’s Cause” has been structured in such a way, to be bigger and greater than any one of our volunteers or Board members, including me.  Separately we can only do so much, but together we accomplish great things.  I feel fortunate and privileged to be surrounded by such an amazing group of people. 

            Thanks for taking the time today to read a few of my thoughts.  This is my first of hopefully many editions here.  I’ll try to check back regularly and update this section with more thoughts on a variety of subjects as they come to me.
